ESS will no longer support TLS v1.0 and TLS v1.1

On November 30, 2020, ESS will drop support for TLS v1.0 and v1.1. These are extremely old protocols that have numerous security vulnerabilities. If you are aware of any senders that are still using these protocols, advise them to upgrade.

ESS dropping support for insecure ciphers

Barracuda Email Security Service (ESS) no longer supports the following insecure ciphers for Transport Layer Security (TLS).

ECDHE-ECDSA-DES-CBC3-SHA [1.0]
ECDHE-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA [1.0]
DHE-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA [1.0]
AES256-GCM-SHA384 [1.2]
AES128-GCM-SHA256 [1.2]
AES256-SHA256 [1.2]
AES256-SHA [1.0]
AES128-SHA256 [1.2]
AES128-SHA [1.0]
DES-CBC3-SHA [1.0]

So what does this mean? If any sender is sending an email to you and they are using any of the above insecure ciphers, their emails will not be delivered. We removed these ciphers since the cryptographic community has deemed these ciphers to be insecure. Many security audits would have flagged the use of any of these ciphers and that will no longer be a problem.

ESS dropping support for older versions of TLS/SSL

Starting on Jan 16, 2020 (next week), ESS will no longer accept connections on SSL v3. Additionally on Jun 1, we’ll drop support for TLS v1.0 and v1.1. These are extremely old protocols that have lots of security vulnerabilities.

This does mean that if any sender sends an email to ESS using these protocols that email will be rejected. If you are aware of any senders that are still using these protocols, please advice them to upgrade.

Beta for Syslog/SIEM Server Integration

We are now in the beta phase of syslog/SIEM server integration. With this, you can transfer Message Log data onto your own syslog/SIEM server to monitor, track and troubleshoot message log activity. It provides the benefits of a single repository for event tracking and a longer logging period with the ability to correlate data on your SIEM server. We’ll need your account number to enable this. We are only able to enable this for customers in the United States for now.

We work on Barracuda Email Security Service all the time and your satisfaction is our main metric for success. However, sometimes, it may seem that not much is happening. We know that communication is important and this new timeline is here to strengthen that very important part.
